The
Living Alternatives Crisis Pregnancy Center offers free pregnancy
tests and supportive help to women facing the first moment of a
positive pregnancy test. Community volunteers stand ready with life-affirming
support and guidance. Even a negative pregnancy test opens the door
to talk about abstinence and how Christ can make a difference in
their lives. Young women seeking a free pregnancy test are "looking
for love in all the wrong places." At the Center we have a
unique opportunity to introduce these love seekers to the One who
loves them the most... Jesus Christ.
The Center is
located across from the Tyler Junior Collage campus which provides
a strategic opportunity to reach this particularly vulnerable age
group to sexual promiscuity and it's subsequent consequence of abortion
temptation. |

A
day at the Crisis Pregnancy Center
By
Kathy Lagesse, CPC volunteer
It's
Thursday at the Crisis Pregnancy Center. I come in wondering what
God will do today. I grab the appointments book, write down the
name of the clients scheduled for sessions and head back to pray.
Chelsey will come for a Bible Study, so she can learn God's truth
of who she is in Christ. Christy will come by to visit and report
on her progress as she anxiously awaits the birth of her twins.
Rena is scheduled to view a nutrition video before she heads off
to work a 6-hour shift, where she will stand on her feet the entire
time. She says her time with us is the "high point" of
her week. In between her classes at Tyler Junior College, Annie
will run by and pick up some diapers and wipes as she prepares for
the birth of her baby, which will come any day now! You may wonder
what these girls have in common. It's not race, religion, economic
standing or even being pregnant. They are all involved in our new
Incentive Program. |

| We
developed the Building Blocks Incentive Program to help girls whether
they choose to parent their baby or choose a second-chance at an abstinence
lifestyle. This program offers real and practical help that encourages
an renews their hope for the future. A young lady with a positive
pregnancy test can meet with an incentive counselor, who will help
her evaluate what she needs for her baby. Then she can earn "blocks"
by participating in childbirth classes, viewing parenting videos,
attending doctors appointments, attending counseling and Bible Study
sessions. These "blocks" can be exchanged for baby products
like diapers, wipes, a stroller or even a baby bed. The young ladies
who test negative can participate in the "Fresh Start" program.
She can earn blocks by attending sessions on abstinence, refusal skill
training and Bible Studies. She can trade her "blocks" for
gift certificates donated by hair salons, fitness centers or various
eateries. |

| All
of our materials and certificates are made possible through generous
donations, baby showers, and gifts from members of our community,
churches and Living Alternative supporters. We want to express our
gratitude to all of them. |

| The
word "volunteer" is inadequate to describe the many ladies
who daily rise to meet the needs of broken people who walk into the
center. Volunteering at the Center is more than simply giving your
"spare time". Volunteering is front line missionary work
that requires laying down one's life for God's loving purposes. |
